2/14 Battalion Welfare Fund – Scholarship Programs
The 2/14 Battalion Association Welfare Fund continues to be committed to supporting scholarship programs for students at Kingsbury Primary School and Reservoir High. The Trustees are continuing to developing initiatives to more closely involve the students from both schools in the Associations various ceremonies and services held throughout the year.
The recipients of the Battalion’s Bruce Kingsbury Scholarship Awards receive funds that are paid to their respective schools which then draw on the proceeds as needed by the students to assist with their further studies. In addition to the funds, each Kingsbury scholar also receives a scholarship certificate and the Battalion’s colour patch badge.
2014 Bruce Kingsbury Scholar – Lucy Lu, Reservoir High
The presentation of the $1,000 Bruce Kingsbury scholarship for 2014 was made by Max Caldwell at the Reservoir High awards evening at the Agora Theatre at Latrobe University on December 10th. The selection of the winning student was based upon the submission of excellent research essays from six year 10 students.
Lucy Lu is the very worthy recipient of this year's Kingsbury scholarship. Lucy’s essay carefully considered the plight of John Metson and put a very real human face to one of Australia's true heroes. Lucy has undertaken some solid research, showing empathy towards her subject and both compassion and maturity in her approach
The Trustees would like to thank all the participating students for their efforts and have made special mention of Carla Gabriel and Krisya Azlan whose essays were also of a particularly high standard. Some of the students work will be published in the Comradeship newsletter over the year ahead. The Association was represented at the school’s awards evening by Max Caldwell, Vice President - David Webb, and Welfare Trustee - Michael Ralston.
2014 Bruce Kingsbury Scholars - Guwanya Kodithuwakku & Christian Wibowo, Kingsbury Primary School
Bruce Kingsbury scholarships were also are also awarded to Guwanya Kodithuwakku and Christian Wibowo from Kingsbury Primary School. The two $300 scholarship awards were presented at the school’s graduation evening on December 15th.
Guwanya was selected by the school as an outstanding student who has involved herself in all aspects of the school community throughout 2014. Guwanya was also appointed as a senior Junior School Councilor.
Christian was the Kingsbury Primary’s 2014 School Captain and was selected by the school in recognition of his performance as a positive role model for Kingsbury.
President Craig Iskov, Secretary John Smith, and Welfare Trustee Rob Eden represented the Association at the school’s graduation evening on December 15th.
